Algoma's Learning Facilities

The Continuing Education learners within PACE have to access to all Algoma University learning facilities available on our campuses and beyond.

Labs and Research Opportunities

In today's fast-paced environment research skills are among the most essential competencies in any industry. Algoma University place a strong focus on developing the research skills of our learners across all our education programs.

Today, Algoma is home to three of Canada's Research Chairs, recognizing our research reputation domestically and worldwide. Assisted by the Federal Government's Research Support Fund, Algoma U provide their learners with access to knowledge resources, maintain state-of-art research labs and facilities, and actively engage learners in collaborative research.

Wishart Library

The Professional and Continuing Education Division relies on the learning resources and databases of the Arthur A. Wishart Library, which are an integral part of the academic experience at Algoma University. The Wishart Library is also well-known on the national level for its roles as a member of the CONIFER Library Consortium, the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN).

The Wishart Library features multiple archival resources, data repositories, and hardware and software infrastructure, providing access to data licensed by Ontario academic libraries. The resources provided by the Wishart library offer learners unique learning opportunities to participate in education projects and develop their research skills.

Algoma's Centre of Excellence

Recognizing the global demand for IT and programming skills, Algoma University, together with Unity, a world-leading platform for creating and operating 3D content, has launched the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE). The NCoE at Algoma promotes innovative education, supports new programming opportunities, and advances research in AR/VR and the development of related software.

The National Centre of Excellence will serve to support multiple education programs provided by Algoma's Division of Professional and Continuing Education, including graduate certificates, coding summer camps, micro- credentials in technology, and more.

Events

Continuing Education learners have full access to events, conferences, and workshops on our campuses. Algoma University regularly hosts a slate of events, including conferences organized through TED – a global non-profit community devoted to spreading ideas in the form of talks with the audience. Algoma's events gather prize-winning authors, key stakeholders in various industries, and experts engaging with ideas and learners to share their knowledge and vision for innovation.

Learner Clubs and Associations

Algoma University has a number of learner clubs covering a variety of interests, from gaming and photography to volunteering and social work, open to full-time, part-time, and continuing education learners. Algoma's PACE learners can sign up for a club throughout the year as well as during special Club Days when clubs open their doors and welcome new members. If you don't find a club you can always start a new one!

Sports

Our continuing education learners have plenty of opportunities for sports and outdoor fun.

Fitness Centre

As an Algoma PACE learner, you have access to the George Leach Centre, the official home of Algoma Thunderbird Athletics, equipped with indoor and outdoor courts, a state-of-art weight room, and fitness studios for Zumba, Step, Pilates, spin, yoga, and more.

Learners studying at the Brampton Campus will receive a free YMCA Gym Memberships valid across the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). The YMCA offers the same amenitites as the GLC (ie: equipped with indoor and outdoor courts, a state-of-art weight room, and fitness studios for Zumba, Step, Pilates, spin, yoga, and more.)

Team Sports

If you prefer team sports, Algoma U is a perfect place to play volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer, pickleball, and more - even if you don't have any prior experience. At Algoma, we have programs for all learners with different skill levels providing the necessary coaching to get you in the game.

Skiing and Winter Activities

There is hardly a better place to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, skating, and other outdoor fun than Ontario. When continuing your education at Algoma, you will have the best skiing, mountain biking, and hiking trails in close proximity to all three of our campuses, supported by resort and recreational venues.
