In Canada, all international learners and their accompanying family members must be part of their University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP), which is mandatory healthcare protection. You should register for UHIP before you come to Canada.
At Algoma PACE, you are automatically enrolled in our UHIP insurance plan when you reserve your seat for your Continuing Education Program after admissions. You will be billed the UHIP costs through your learner account after registration.
If you have any dependents coming with you, you will need to contact Algoma PACE through our Contact Us page to register eligible dependents for mandatory insurance.
UHIP insurance for international learners is similar to the mandatory government insurance plan for Ontario residents (OHIP). The UHIP plan is created by Ontario universities to provide international learners with coverage for primary healthcare services.
Since UHIP is a basic plan, you will still need supplementary coverage for services not included in the mandatory insurance. You can find out what is not included in UHIP in our FAQ section.
UHIP coverage is limited to:
You can find healthcare providers who accept UHIP coverage through the search tool available at the Cowangroup.ca.
Please note that you may need a paper copy of your UHIP insurance policy when you visit your medical provider. Since UHIP no longer prints and provides cards, you can print your own proof of UHIP coverage and Claim Forms.
Learn more about submitting claims in cases when you have received an invoice from a medical provider or paid for medical service on the UHIP website.
At Algoma PACE, we care about each of our learner's welfare and well-being while you pursue your continuing education programs. If you have any questions about learner health insurance, please check our FAQ section or reach out through our Contact Us page.
The Centre for Continuing Education provides international learners with a supplementary insurance plan to deliver additional coverage above UHIP. Please note that the AUSU Learner VIP Health Plan is available only for those insured under UHIP.
The AUSU plan includes the following services:
Learners insured under the AUSU plan can access physician services through the Direct2U Doctors platform.
