Admissions Requirements

Algoma's PACE is home to various post-secondary education programs for learners with different educational levels, offering multiple professional credentials, including micro-credentials, graduate certificates, English as a Second Language, and more.

Most of Algoma's Professional and Continuing Education programs require a post-secondary education at the university level. Please check the applicable requirements in the Program Section by selecting the page for the education program of your interest.

International learners applying for continuing education within PACE should confirm their sufficient English language proficiency. For more information please check the Proof of English Language Proficiency section on this page down below.

Algoma PACE Application Guide

The application process for Algoma's Professional and Continuing Education admission is simple and easy. Here is our short Application Guide to ensure that you take all important steps when you apply.

  • Fill out your application here.
  • Pay your non-refundable $125.00 CAD application fee ($70.00 CAD for domestic learners). Please see our FAQ and tuition and fees page for payment options.
  • Receive your Acceptance Offer Letter from the Algoma and celebrate your admission!
  • Accept your Offer Letter and get ready for your studies.

Documents to Accompany Your Application

All applicants must provide copies of documents to confirm prior education - a requirement for admission into Professional and Continuing Education programs.

List of Required Documents

When you proceed to the Application Page, you will need the following documents ready for upload:

  • Copies of your post-secondary degree or diploma, if required for admission to your chosen Continuing Education Program, as specified on the respective Program's page.
  • Copies of your post-secondary school transcript if a post-secondary degree or diploma is submitted.
  • Copies of your secondary school diploma and transcript.
  • Proof of English language proficiency.

Document Submission Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines to ensure the processing time of your application.

Language of documents
All documents not originating in the English language should be accompanied by a certified English-language translation. You will need to provide a notarized English-language translation if official certification by the translation agency is not available in your country.

Full package
All post-secondary degrees and diplomas must be accompanied by official transcripts.

Format of digital copies
When uploading or sending digital copies of your professional credentials, please observe the following requirements:

  • choose descriptive filenames which reflect the content of the document, for example, 'English Language Test' or 'University Diploma and Transcript',
  • all digital copies should be in PDF format,
  • all documents related to each educational institution should be merged into one PDF file.

Deadline to Submit Your Application

Observing the deadlines around submitting your application is necessary to be considered for admission to your chosen Algoma Professional and Continuing Education program for your desired academic term.

Deadlines for Applications and Tuition Payments Overseas International Applicants

If you are an international learner who currently does not have an approved Study Permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) AND you live outside of Canada, you are considered an Overseas International Applicant.

As an Overseas International Applicant, you need to apply well in advance in order to ensure that you have enough time to apply for your Study Permit with the IRCC.

Onshore International Applicants and
Domestic Applicants

If you are an international learner living in Canada with an approved Canadian Study Permit OR you reside overseas but have a valid Canadian Study Permit, you are considered an onshore applicant.

Onshore international learners and domestic learners should observe the following timeframe for their application process.

Automatic Deferral of Applications

If you apply after the deadline your application will be automatically deferred to the next available intake.

All tuition fees should be paid by the respective deadlines. Your Acceptance Offer Letter is only valid after your full payment of the tuition deposit specified in the Letter. All international offshore applicants should pay their tuition before submitting a Study Permit application to the IRCC.

Proof of English Language Proficiency

All international applicants who wish to apply for Algoma are required to provide proof of English language proficiency, except those learners who originate from exempt countries.

International learners who are citizens of exempt countries are not required to confirm their English proficiency.

Requirements for the Proof of English Language Proficiency

Since the language of instruction at Algoma is English, learners need to have sufficient language proficiency to have a successful academic experience.

The following are the minimum requirements necessary to be considered for admission to Algoma Professional and Continuing Education programs (except for the English as a Foreign Language program).

For additional information about these and other tests which can serve as proof of sufficient English language proficiency, please check the English Language Requirements Page.

  • TOEFL: 550 score for the paper-based test or 79 score for the Internet-based test
  • IELTS Academic: 6.0 (including 6.0 in each band of reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
  • MELAB: 90 percent
  • CanTEST: 4.5
  • CAEL (paper-based or computer edition): 60
  • Duolingo English Language [DET] with a minimum overall score of 110, in addition to a minimum score of 90 in each band
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic): 63
  • 3 years of full-time studies in an approved secondary school (in or outside Canada) which follows the Ontario or Canadian secondary school curriculum. The minimum grade requirement for Grade 12 English (academic bound) is 70%
  • 3 years of full-time studies in a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or the USA
